Do You Fear God? (Part 16)
Another trait of the people of the last days is that they are headstrong. Headstrong means not easily restrained: Impatient of control, advice, or suggestions; Directed by ungovernable will. A headstrong person is reckless, rash, and hasty-all without giving thought to the consequences. A headstrong person thinks he knows best and can live and act recklessly, without paying any attention to the consequences. The reckless person thinks little about what he is doing; he just enjoys the feeling and pleasure. He enjoys the stimulation and excitement; the consequences matter little in the midst of the pleasure and excitement. Think about how much hurt and damage is done when a person lives for the pleasure of the moment. Think of the hurt and damage done because of the pleasure of reckless lust and passion, reckless boating and driving, reckless work and recreation, reckless eating and drinking. Being headstrong-thinking that one knows best and can live and act recklessly without consequence-has led to more hurt, accidents, damaged bodies, and death than could ever be imagined. Are you a headstrong person-refusing to listen to wise counsel before you act? The Lord Jesus tells us in Luke 12:16-21(NKJV) “Then He spoke a parable to them saying: ‘The ground of a certain rich man yielded plentifully. And he thought within himself saying, ‘what shall I do since I have no room to store my crops?’ So he said: ‘I will do this: I will pull down my barns and build greater, and there I will store all my crops and my goods. And I will say to my soul, ‘Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry.’ But God said to him, ‘Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?’ So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
