JESUS is alive! Praise His Holy name! He did not come to earth to condemn us, but to save us from our sins! “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved” (John 3:16-17 NKJV).
Over the past 38 years of my life, my Lord has taught me to be very sensitive to the leadership of the Holy Spirit every minute of every hour of every day of my brief life! On Wednesday morning, Nov. 2nd, I received a message from my dear brother in Christ, Todd Gray, who lives in the Newport, TN area. He told me that the husband of a lady who I had baptized 22 years ago there had passed away. I felt that this was my Lord prompting me to go to the funeral home the same night for the receiving of friends. As soon as I walked into the receiving line, Brenda Kelley and her daughter, Barbie, got up from their seats and came to me. Brenda stated: “Brother Jeff, when I walked in the door, I said: ‘Jesus, please help me!’ She did not know how to reach me, and she said: ‘Jesus has sent you here. Will you do Boone’s memorial service tonight?’” I was taken aback for this had never happened to me! I spoke with the funeral director who was ready to do the service and I asked him if this was of the Lord and he said: “Brother, I am a deacon. You are an evangelist. You are supposed to do this funeral.” Brenda and Barbie met with me and told me what they would like for me to do, and they gave me permission to share the gospel! I did as they and my Lord instructed me to do, and I also delivered a very clear presentation of the gospel message. I led people publicly in the sinner’s prayer to be Born Again and in the prayer of recommitment as a child of God. Hands went up everywhere that they prayed with me! As my mom would say: “There is a first time for everything!” Praise the sweet name of the Lord Jesus!
The awesome power of the living God continues to go before me, with me, and after me each week into the place where men are incarcerated! I can truly feel your faithful and passionate prayers! Thank you, with every fiber of my being! Over the past month, five men have given their hearts to Jesus while twenty-three men have recommitted their lives to their Lord! During one of the prayer times, a very young man told how his house had burned down and his parents had passed. He stated: “I have lost everything.” Only a few moments earlier, he was praying over another inmate, and I could see his tears hitting the floor. It was just one of those moments that I will not soon forget! These men are taken aback that I tell them that I love them as they walk in the door. They testify publicly that drugs have literally wrecked their lives and how sorry they are for what they have done to their families. They publicly cry tears of regret that they have lost their families! My job is to Biblically challenge, encourage, and equip them to put their past behind them and move forward for the glory of their Lord! They walk into the church room beaten down and depressed and I look each one in the eye and tell them that I love them enough to die for them! Only the great power of the Holy Spirit can break through into their heart and He does it so very well! I recently received a letter from one of the inmates. He was in one of the church services. He states: “I thought you did a great job and could tell that you are sincere. Thank you for what you do and know that you do make a difference.”
Pastor Danny Bell had me to proclaim the gospel at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bulls Gap, TN on Sunday morning, Nov. 20th. I delivered the message: The Spiritual State of These United States. The text is Psalm 33:12. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.” No one came forward during the public invitation, but it was stone cold quiet during the message! That is what usually happens when a prophetic message is delivered!
A few weeks ago, I attended a breakfast for the men who played high school football with me in the 1970’s. A man came up to me with tears in his eyes. He told me that he met me in a church in Newport, TN over twenty years ago. At that time in his life, his wife had left him, and he was contemplating suicide. My family took him to lunch with us and we encouraged him that he was going to be okay. He is now happily married and serving his Lord in a local church! He and his wife thanked me! Oh, yes! Our labor for our Lord is never ever in vain (1 Cor. 15:58)!
On Sunday, Dec. 4th, I will share the gospel at Omega Baptist Church in White Pine, TN where Scott Ingram is the pastor. On Friday morning, Dec. 9th, I will share the gospel at the First Priority Bible Club at Westview Middle School in Morristown, TN. Please be praying for many boys and girls to give their hearts to Jesus! Thank you for standing with this soul winner in the harvest fields. I could not do it without your faithful prayers and support! I love you! Have a great Christmas!
